Retainer Scheme

NHS England has published new guidance on the existing Retained Doctor Scheme as although the Scheme has been in place for many years, the 2016 Scheme delivers a number of improvements (including an increase in both the money for practices employing a Retained GP and the annual payment towards professional expenses for GPs on the Scheme). Please see the Health Education Wessex website for further information.

CSA & AKT Exam Preparation

For some years, the Wessex School of General Practice has pre-paid for CSA and AKT exam preparation courses at the RCGP Wessex Faculty. From August 2016, the funding for CSA and AKT courses will be allocated to the four Patch Offices. GP trainees will be able to apply to their Patch Office for funding to attend an appropriate, approved CSA and AKT exam preparation course of their choice. Trainees will be able to claim up to £350 for the CSA course and up to £150 for the AKT course from their Patch Office. Any additional charge for these courses will be met by the trainee.

Congratulations to this year’s National AiT Committee Reps, Sophie Lanaghan and Hafiz Aladin. They can be contacted via this email.

Think GP

The RCGP have recently launched their Think GP campaign and have produced a series of videos and a guide showcasing a career in general practice. Please see their website for further information. Hard copies of the guide will be provided to all GP Trainers in due course.
